The Northeastern-Boston University rivalry isn't limited to just men's hockey. 200 fans at Sweeney Field yesterday were treated to a back-and-forth field hockey affair between the Huskies and Terriers, with Northeastern coming out on top 4-3.
The match started with Carolyn Malloy scoring for the Huskies just four minutes in. BU answered a minute later to tie the game. Two minutes later, Nicola Graham answered with a goal of her own. The Huskies appeared ready to head into halftime with a lead, but BU's Allie Dolce scored on a rebound to tie the game.
NU's Annie Clayman opened the second half with a goal, and it looked like it would hold up, but with six minutes remaining, BU tied it on a Nikki Lloyd goal. But Pam Aldridge saved the day and kept the game from going to overtime as she banged the ball home with a goal with just 1:07 left on the clock. It was a clutch goal by the junior from British Columbia and it gave Northeastern its third consecutive win.
After a rough start, the Huskies seemingly have gelled and put things together. The offense has put up 10 goals over the last three games, and Lizzie Priest is providing strong goalkeeping. NU has a tough week ahead, playing at Providence and at Massachusetts this week. It'll be the final tune up before CAA action begins on Sept. 25 at Old Dominion.
