Seven Huskies teams are active this weekend, making it jam packed with Northeastern Athletics. There's something for everyone.
Field hockey is going for two in a row, taking on Quinnipiac, a team the Huskies have never lost to, on Friday. Hope we didn't just jinx it. Ever notice how kind British Columbia has been to the field hockey team? Lizzie Priest, Crystal Poland, Kaela Barker, Nicola Graham, Pam Aldridge and Montana Hewlett all hail from there. Watch out for Poland, who already has two goals and assist as a true freshman. The Huskies host BU Sunday. Hope everyone makes the short trek to Sweeney Field.
Women's soccer is at UNH tonight. Should be a good battle between those two teams. The Devin Petta watch continues. The freshman has four goals and two assists in her first four games. Simply unbelievable. Watch out for those Gordon twins as well. Stephanie has been great in goal, and Danielle is already making her presence felt on defense.
Men's & women's cross country are at JMU Saturday morning. The Huskies got off to a good start at Bryant, hope they keep the momentum going.
Volleyball plays Holy Cross and BC Saturday in Worcester. The Huskies had it rough in California, but those were some tough teams out there. Two of them were nationally ranked. With Britney Brown, Jessica Tkachuk and newcomer Nicole Bishop, these Huskies won't be down for long.
Football hosts Maine Saturday in the home and CAA Football opener. The weather might not cooperate, but hopefully the Huskies faithful will be out in full force. Maine is 20th in the country, but the Huskies have the home field advantage. It's great to see Phil Higgins and Craig Kenney out there together at inside linebacker. Those two are going to cause havoc.
Men's soccer is at Providence Saturday. Those two teams played a dandy at Parsons last season, battling to a scoreless tie. Both teams emphasize defense, so goals will be at a premium. First team to score might win that one.
Go Huskies!
