Welcome to the Huskies Insider

Welcome to the Huskies Insider, the new Northeastern Athletics blog that will keep Huskies fans informed on the ins and outs of the the school's 19 varsity sports. Check back here for releases, original content and live blogs. Be sure to log on this Saturday, Sept. 12 as the Huskies Insider live blogs the football team's home and CAA Football opener against Maine at Parsons Field.

News and Notes:

The athletics department will be holding a blood drive on Nov. 2 at the Curry Student Center Ballroom from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event is part of the CAA's annual Blood Challenge, in which all 12 CAA institutions hold one-day, campus-wide blood drives. The school with the most donors will win the challenge. Drexel has won the last three years, so let's hope that the Huskies can break that streak this season.

Congratulations goes out to a pair of weekly honorees. Field hockey's Crystal Poland was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week after she scored a couple of goals in NU's 3-2 win over California last Sunday. Women's soccer's Stephanie Gordon was named Northeastern's first Student-Athlete of the Week. Gordon has been dominant the first two weeks of the season. She posted back-to-back shutouts to start the year, then helped the Huskies beat ACC opponent Clemson with eight saves on nine shots on goal.

The athletics department will be holding its Matthews Arena Priority Points Seating event Friday night. Men's hockey season ticket holders will get to pick their seats in the newly-renovated arena. Folks that have yet to see the renovations are in for a treat. The building looks excellent. Check back here for photos of the event.
